1dok protocol

The 1dok meta data model is the result of thinking about seamless exchange of digital documents and their unhindered reading in into and processing in case file control or document management systems. It offers the chance to standardize semantically structured contents and to structure them in such a way that for each conceivable communication situation the most suitable vocabulary can be chosen. It offers the chance to standardize semantically structured contents and to structure them in such a way that for each conceivable communication situation the most suitable vocabulary can be chosen.

In the "proposal for the implementation of an extensible meta data model to complete the OpenOffice.org format" the possibility of associative storage was examined for local use, i.e. at a workstation, for the present.
By means of a special protocol (called 1dok protocol in the following), an Office programme could exchange documents over a corresponding service.
Following this thought, there would be a chance for employees in big organizations to file their digital documents in central 1dok servers without having to leave their workstations.
In addition, organizations could provide documents and forms for query by internet over corresponding 1dok servers.
Direct and free exchange of digital documents between different communication partners merely by means of their chosen Office products would become possible.
You can find an illustration under "1dok-Service".
This document based application protocol might serve the following functions:

1. Recherche of documents or forms
Documents or forms with semantically structured content can be searched by 1dok protocol so that the desired document can be found quickly.

2. Download of documents or forms
In an organization, certain documents or forms meant for download could be provided for query immediately over a 1dok protocol address. The well-known way of going to the web site of the organization first and to download the desired document from there will become superfluous. The specific Office products could manage the query directly over the underlying 1dok protocol service.

3. Query of allowed document classes
The 1dok protocol service would also provide the information which document class a 1dok server to be contacted could process or make available.

4. Upload of documents or forms
Corresponding to function 2., documents or forms created by the specific Office product could be sent to their destination immediately over the underlying 1dok protocol service without need to leave the processing programme (Office product).
